Dare to jump
dare to jump.
A great coach has inspired me. Serge Labell, a coach, a brilliant mind, a mentor and most of all, a great friend. He acted as my soundboard, bouncing back thoughts and ideas that were already inside me, waiting to be unearthed at the right time. I learned today, and I would like to share my inspiration with all of you. Here is what was reflected in our conversation….
Molds are deceiving; they appear to be safe, but in fact, they are the most dangerous. They trap you. You form a habit of fitting into that mold – without a thought – without resistance. Break out of your mold…
These are his words to me:
“Go and seek for something you NEVER thought you would go for – this will brake the mold. You will discover a new world and a new you. Try new things you would never tought you would do. Do the opposite of what you have done before.
China? Why not?
Politics ? Why Not?
We are not here for 2000 years!
You are way more matured, experienced, original etc… than I was, even if I was already an olympic coach at 21. And you know what the difference is?
I didn’t have your skills and talent BTW, but I made good choices and I was a fucking gutzy guy. I did a lot of thing that alot of people didnt want to do to be able to eventually do a lot of things a LOT of people CANT do. People are scared of China- ok I WILL GO. Africa, India, Iran- NO PROBLEM! I will go!
JUMP JUMP JUMP in it!”
Serge came from a poor family. He wasn’t exceptionally skilled or talented. But he was driven, dedicated and fearless. He made the right decisions in his life and learned from the bad ones. So many of us are blessed with a head start, we have everything, yet we are so scared to break out of our safety nets, our comfort zone. We act and don’t act out of fear, we don’t take risks and miss opporutnities and don’t reach our fullest potential. Aim for the stars and reach beyond, because you can and if you want to, you will.
